So I am kind of ashamed to say it, but I am glad Ky's soccer season is over. He actually did much better than I expected him to do, but this season didn't go with out it's problems! The first two games were torture. Ky would get so mad when he didn't get to kick the ball and he spent over half the time he was on the field sitting down in protest. Then when Brad took him out (he was the coach), Ky would be so mad because he wanted to go back in. To make matters worse the WHOLE time I am fighting with Tyce (who is the biggest daddy's boy on the planet), who keeps trying to wiggle out of my arms to run to his dad. He would kick and scream and hit (yes my sweet baby can now throw a knarly temper tantrum), and wanted nothing to do with me. But since Brad was the coach he couldn't help me. So needless to say after the first 2 games I was D-O-N-E, done! So I tried something new for the 3rd game. I got Amy to watch Tyce and Kam and Brad and I took Ky to the soccer game so I wouldn't have any distractions and I could just focus on KyKy...he did AMAZING that game. He played, chased the ball and had a great time. When he came out I was able to play with him and distract him until it was his turn to go in again. We only had one moment of frustration and it was towards the end of the game. So that became our routine. No other siblings at the games. Ky never did as well as that 3rd game, but he made a huge improvement over his first couple. I was very proud of him. And as I looked over the other fields of 3 and 4 year olds I saw that I was definatly not the only parent that stuggled with getting thier child to play, which made me feel better.

There are so many kids chasing the ball it is hard to get to it, but he was always so happy and proud when he did! He even scored a goal this game!

This is his "I'm mad I didn't get to kick the ball" protest position.

Ha Ha...now do you see why I don't really want my kids to play soccer until they're older? Tyson started at age 4 and did all of those things. Now that he's 7 and we play with the Hofheins, he understands that he's not going to get the ball all the time.
I knew that I could never be a "soccer mom" now I know why. Sports are so awesome for our children though. Way to stick with it. It only gets better as they get older! :)
He is so cute; you are good to figure it all out. It sounds like you weren't the only mom though, we have a couple in our neighborhood that hated soccer days almost as much as their child! :)
K so I just read one of your old posts about Walmart and thought I would comment. I think that is so funny about Ky spanking a random guy in the butt. About the creepy man I would feel the same way.
I love the picture of him sitting on the field! And way to go super mom! I'm sure Ky loves that you are there to watch him play.
Soccer has its moments but when it's all said and done we do it for our kids and hope that some day down the road they will look back and think how fun it was to run all over the field chasing the ball like a pack of dogs chases a cat. And trust me the fits don't confine themselves to the 3 and 4 year olds because there were plenty of 5 year olds flopping down on the field, or just running off completely. Heck, Abby in the first grade was doing summer salts in the middle of the field and picking flowers. Soccer is a new adventure every game.
