So I expect my children to lie to me on
occasion. I am not so
naive to think that they will always tell me the truth. However i just wasn't expecting it from my 18 month old who can't even talk!! Let me explain. I have taught
Tyce a few words in sign language to help get us through the phase where he really wants to communicate but can't talk yet. One of the words he knows is "eat". Whenever he signs "eat" I know he, well...wants something to eat. Well this little sucker has learned how to manipulate the system. I started noticing last week that when i was taking him up to his bed he would sign eat. So me, being the kind mother I am, would make a detour to the fridge and get him something to eat
cuz I didn't want him to go to bed
hungry (then he wouldn't sleep as long...ya know!). Well yesterday he had a HUGE lunch and was starting to get cranky shortly after we finished, so I knew it was time for his nap. I picked him up and started to walk up the stairs and was talking to him saying, "are you ready for a nap?". He
immediately started signing the word "eat" over and over. He looked like he really
meant it too. But I knew he wasn't hungry!!! I figured him out...he has been lying to me to avoid going to bed. Today I tested this theory as I was talking to Brad. I was holding him and said..."do you want to take a nap?" and sure enough...."eat,eat,eat". The little stinker! I am just impressed he had me fooled for so long...but no more. I am on to him.
